Opened in 1998 and renovated in 2008, the Explora Atacama Hotel de Larache is a lovingly crafted lodge complex that has won awards for its exquisite design. On the grounds of the property is an extensive patio area with a group of 4 interconnected swimming pools, 2 of them heated by solar panels. Nearby are saunas, steam baths, jacuzzis, a self-service bar, and an adobe massage room called the Turi Puri. Each evening, Explora Atacama¿s bilingual guides meet with guests to jointly decide their activities for the following day; a maximum of 8 guests accompany each guide. These excursions, which range from treks to mountain biking, mountain climbs to rides on horses from the hotel¿s own stables, are all included in the room rates. Stargazing sessions are held in the hotel¿s own observatory. Also included with room rates are 3 meals a day in the hotel¿s dining room or out in the barbecue area, paired with Chilean wines or spirits.
